Welcome to the Columbia Entrepreneurship
Startup Law Studio
Columbia Entrepreneurship has partnered with Charles Torres, head of the Emerging Companies and Venture Capital and Partner at Perkins Coie to provide free professional startup law office hours for student startup teams in the Columbia community.
“The Columbia Entrepreneurship Startup Law Studio provides a unique window into real-world VC lawyering. The university-wide collaboration made possible by this Columbia Entrepreneurship-Perkins Cole partnership is an exceptional opportunity for Columbia Law Students.”
– Nathalie Russell ’14CC
How it Works
We host regularly scheduled 30 minute sessions held both at the Columbia Startup Lab as well as on Columbia’s campus for legitimate student startup teams to address their legal questions.
“I attended the Columbia Entrepreneurship’s Startup Law Program which took place on Dec. 7. It was truly a valuable and exciting experience for me to see what kind of issues were addressed during lawyering as well as to get to know the current trends of startups in NY area.”
– Yuji Nakano LL.M. Candidate ’17Law
All sessions will be conducted on a pro-bono basis. The sessions are observed by Columbia Law School Students, who seek to gain venture-law experience by observing the office hours. These participating law students gather with Charles and team afterwards to ask relevant questions and discuss the case confidentially.
“The Startup Law Studio was a fantastic experience that we would not normally be exposed to while at Law School. The Perkins Coie lawyers were able to talk about startup law issues that we would not have been immersed in during a traditional class. This is a win-win situation for all involved”
