SUMMARY:Design Thinking x Neuroscience
DESCRIPTION:OPEN TO STUDENTS\n \nLEARN MORE \n\nJoin this 1.5 hour workshop\, which teaches interactive design skills alongside neuroscience content. \nThe Design Studio is located on the 4th floor of Riverside Church. Ask the attendant on duty for location if you need further help. \nAbout \n\n\n\n\nCompared to peer institutions in New York City and other Ivy League universities\, Columbia lacks a focus and research in the discipline of Disability Studies (DS). To this end\, we recognize a need to educate DS students and further diffuse misconceptions about disabilities through a formalized structure. Developed by two neuroscience students registered with Office of Disabilities (ODS)\, we propose an affective neuroscience-based course whose curriculum touches on the topics of mindfulness\, positive psychology\, the development of the brain\, plasticity and more. Comparable to Stanford’s “Design Your Life” course\, Yale’s course on happiness\, and Barnard’s own Science of Well Being course\, this class focuses on inclusion\, identity\, and helping students with disabilities develop\, design and understand their own minds.

SUMMARY:Design Your Future Workshop
DESCRIPTION:OPEN TO ALL \nREGISTER HERE \nThe future can feel uncertain\, so we created Design Your Future as a program where students learn to apply human-centered design to their careers and life beyond Columbia. \nThe goal of this program is to help you better navigate your career and life choices in the face of uncertainty. \nDesign Your Future gives you the tools to help you get unstuck in life. Design relies heavily on small experiments and rapid iteration. You will learn how to craft and run small experiments that can keep your work and life choices aligned with your goals. This program is highly interactive–there will be far more activities than lectures. \nDuring the workshop you will: \n▪ Reflect on strengths and passions\n▪ Map out multiple future trajectories\n▪ Design small experiments for your life\n▪ Identify and address personal barriers \nDesign Your Future is open to the entire Columbia community. \nNote: this program will leverage design but not teach it explicitly. If you are interested in learning how to practice human centered design or use it to launch a startup\, see our other programs.
