Over the course of the semester\, teams will dive into each phase of the design process together and receive one-on-one coaching from the Design Team.\nThroughout the program you will: \n* Interview and research real users and stakeholders in the community you are designing for.\n* Design an innovative solution for your challenge.\n* Have a coherent market\, value proposition\, and workable prototype by the end of the program. \nThis program is a deep dive into creating a venture based on user-feedback and testing so it will be particularly useful for students applying for any of the entrepreneurship fund challenges in their respective schools. SUMMARY:Design Your Future Workshop
DESCRIPTION:OPEN TO ALL \nREGISTER HERE \nThe future can feel uncertain\, so we created Design Your Future as a program where students learn to apply human-centered design to their careers and life beyond Columbia. \nThe goal of this program is to help you better navigate your career and life choices in the face of uncertainty. \nDesign Your Future gives you the tools to help you get unstuck in life. Design relies heavily on small experiments and rapid iteration. You will learn how to craft and run small experiments that can keep your work and life choices aligned with your goals. This program is highly interactive–there will be far more activities than lectures. \nDuring the workshop you will: \n▪ Reflect on strengths and passions\n▪ Map out multiple future trajectories\n▪ Design small experiments for your life\n▪ Identify and address personal barriers \nDesign Your Future is open to the entire Columbia community. \nNote: this program will leverage design but not teach it explicitly. If you are interested in learning how to practice human centered design or use it to launch a startup\, see our other programs.

DESCRIPTION:OPEN TO ALL \nRSVP HERE \nWednesday\, April 25th \n3:00pm to 5:00pm\nThe Design Studio (Riverside Church Room 430) \nDesign thinking is a process we use at the Design Studio to help students become unstuck in the entrepreneurial ventures they are launching\, or for gaining clarity on their personal trajectory. We also believe that Design Thinking has tremendous potential in helping to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and reduce extreme poverty around the world. \nIn this workshop we will focus on brainstorming\, process mapping and stakeholder analysis and use design to start thinking creatively about developing potential solutions to poverty problems. This workshop will be useful for students who have summer field placements in developing countries or who have job placements abroad after graduation\, or who are just interested in the intersection of design thinking and sustainable development. \nCome prepared to work on development challenges relating to your upcoming field placement/internship. \nIf you have questions\, please reach out to us at designstudio@columbia.edu.

DESCRIPTION:OPEN TO ALL \nREGISTER HERE \n490 Riverside Drive | Room 430 | New York\, NY 10027 \nPlease come to a LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® workshop where we’ll use LEGO Bricks to have a new kind of conversation about design challenges and the challenges of kicking off an early-stage venture! \nWhat is the LEGO SERIOUS PLAY Method? It’s a facilitated problem-solving process that leads participants through a set of questions\, going deeper and deeper into a subject that’s relevant to the group. Each participant builds a LEGO model in response to the facilitator´s questions. These models become the foundation for discussion\, knowledge sharing\, and decision making. It’s also a lot of FUN! \n

DESCRIPTION:Are you planning to pitch your venture\, tell your founder’s story\, or simply develop a presentation for a course or job interview? Join us at the Design Studio for our storytelling workshop on Wednesday\, March 28st\, 3:30-pm-4:45pm. \nKnowing how to tell a compelling story about yourself or your product is one of the most important yet overlooked traits of a successful entrepreneur. This workshop will help you develop the core of your story – from forming the backstory of a product to creating the narrative of your personal journey. Explore how to construct a coherent narrative\, expand your creative confidence\, and strengthen your skill with the art of a good story. \nIn the past\, this workshop has been helpful for teams who are gearing up for a final pitch at the Columbia Venture Competition\, Dean’s Challenge or a final presentation for class. This workshop is open to all students\, staff and alumni at the Columbia community.

DESCRIPTION:OPEN TO ALL COLUMBIANS \nREGISTER HERE \nOne of the core tenets of human centered design is understanding the needs of others. The ability to uncover and solve unmet needs is something all successful startups do well. Additionally\, this acute awareness of users has been proven to drive innovation and creativity in more traditional settings. \nJoin us in this introductory sprint to learn how to use design tools\, including interviewing\, analogous spaces\, empathy probes\, and more. By the end of the sprint\, you will have practiced these tools to understand communities and pinpoint areas of opportunity for entrepreneurship. This workshop will be incredibly helpful for students who will use the holiday break to conduct in-depth field research for a capstone project. \nThis sprint is hands-on and fast paced! Come with your own idea or we will provide you with a topic to research.
