Come learn how to fundraise from top venture capitalists! \nJoin Columbia Engineering at Davis Auditorium for a talk with VC from Floodgate\, Firstmark Capital\, and more. \nSpeakers: \nANN MIURA-KO: CO FOUNDING PARTNER FLOODGATE \nAnn Miura-Ko is a Co-founding Partner at Floodgate. A repeat member of the Forbes Midas List and the New York Times Top 20 Venture Capitalists Worldwide\, Ann was also named the “Most Powerful Woman in Startups” by Forbes. \nAnn is well-known in Silicon Valley as a pioneer investor in the pre-seed and seed stage companies because of her background as a Ph.D. in math modelling of infosec at Stanford. Ann has also made significant investments in consumer (commerce\, curation)\, marketplaces\, and software for SMBs and solopreneurs. Some of Ann’s investments include Lyft (where she is still a board member)\, Xamarin\, Monthly\, Popshop\, Poparazzi\, Emotive\, and Refinery29. \nAnn is also a lecturer in entrepreneurship at Stanford\, a co- director of the Mayfield Fellows Program at Stanford\, a member of the Board of Trustees for Yale University\, and a cofounding member of All Raise\, a nonprofit committed to improving diversity in funders and founders. \nMATT TURCK: PARTNER FIRSTMARK CAPITAL \nMatt Turck is a French American technology entrepreneur and investor. A partner at NYC-based venture capital firm FirstMark Capital\, he invests across a broad range of early-stage Internet\, software and hardware startups. Prior to FirstMark\, he was a Managing Director at Bloomberg Ventures\, the investment and incubation arm of Bloomberg LP\, which he helped start. Prior to his investing career\, Matt was an entrepreneur and the co-founder of TripleHop Technologies\, a venture-backed enterprise search software startup that was acquired by Oracle and became the cornerstone of Oracle’s initial foray into search technologies. \nMatt is passionate about building communities\, and organizes Data Driven NYC (a 17\,000 person group that focuses on data and AI) and Hardwired NYC (a 7\,000 person group that focuses on frontier/deep tech). Over the years\, Data Driven NYC and Hardwired NYC have featured as speakers about 500 of the top CEOs\, CTOs\, VCs and senior executives in their respective areas \nSPENCER CRAWLEY: CO FOUNDER & PARTNER FIRSTMINUTE CAPITAL \nSpencer Crawley is the Co-founder and Managing Partner of firstminute capital. The fund currently has $325m AUM\, a team of 20\, and invests at the seed-stage across technology sectors\, focused on Europe and the US. The firstminute investor base includes over 120+ Unicorn founders of technology businesses. Spencer sits on the board of Generation Home\, a UK digital mortgage lender\, and is a Director of the NYSE-listed Tailwind International\, a SPAC platform which has launched three public companies with a combined market cap of over $1bn. Spencer started his career at Goldman Sachs in Moscow\, before becoming the first hire at DMC Partners\, a Special Opportunities fund spun out of Goldman Sachs. The firm was founded by Goldman Sach’s Global Co-Head of Trading & Securities\, the Global Co-Head of Strategies & Structuring\, and the CEO of the Russia & CIS business\, alongside the former Head of TPG of Europe and CFO of Index Ventures. SUMMARY:Design for Social Innovation\, Spring 2022 (Deadline)
DESCRIPTION:Are you interested in tackling complex problems through human centered design? \nDesign For Social Innovation (DFSI) is a semester-long course taught by Sarah Holloway (SIPA and SPS) and Adam Royalty (Columbia Designer in Residence) where Columbia University students and faculty support social enterprises\, nonprofit organizations\, and the public sector to address complex\, ambiguous global problems through human centered design. The course is open to students from Columbia’s 20 undergraduate and graduate schools via an application and interview process. \n\n\nThe 3.0 credit course is a collaboration between the Columbia Entrepreneurship Design Studio and the Columbia School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA). \n\n\n\n\nThe class will take place in-person on Wednesdays from 11:00am – 12:50pm at the Columbia Entrepreneurship Design Studio (meeting all but four Wednesdays when teams are “out of the building” interviewing\, workshopping and with teaching team in office hours) \n\n\nIn addition to class time\, there will be two (2) mandatory Design Sprints on January 20-21 and February 10-11 (Fridays and Saturday\, Jan 21 – 1pm to 5pm; Saturday Feb 11 10am to 2pm) \n\n\nThe application-only course will accept a total of 30 students for the Spring 2023 term \n\n\nThis Spring\, we will work with NYC-based organizations around the themes of Democracy\, Affordable Housing\, Civic Innovation\, Medical Equity\, Financial Security\, etc. If selected\, you will be placed on a team based on your background and interest. \nApplications are now live and they will close at 11:59pm EDT on Friday\, November 11.
