Jon Steinberg ’03BUS is the President of BuzzFeed, the leading media company for social news and entertainment. Buzzfeed is intensely focused on delivering high-quality original reporting, insight, and viral content across a rapidly expanding array of subject areas. Their technology powers the social distribution of content, detects what is trending on the web, and connects people in real-time with the hottest content of the moment. The site is rapidly growing and reaches more than 60 million monthly unique visitors.
Buzzfeed users can see the latest trends of News, Entertainment, Life, Video and More. To maintain content sorting and real time updates, the site uses “Badges”. These tags includes “LOL”, “Eww”, “AWFUL”, “CUTE”, and more which allow users to express their reaction to content. If enough users feel the same way, then a visual badge is included on the edge of the thumbnail image for that post, alerting others to its content.
Jonah Peretti, founder & CEO of BuzzFeed, previously co-founded the Huffington Post. Ben Smith is its Editor-in-Chief and Kenneth Lerer is the Executive Chairman.
