From the room’s green, orange and red beamed ceiling and bronze Zildjian gong to the fact that enrolled students don’t earn a single credit toward their degrees for participating, it’s unlike anything else to be found in Columbia’s course catalog. Design Your Future is a program run once a semester through the Columbia Entrepreneurship Design Studio. Since opening its doors in the fall of 2016, the Design Studio has sought to teach Columbia students how to apply design thinking—a problem-solving technique that involves exploring and reframing complex challenges in order to generate innovative solutions—to fields ranging from engineering to public policy.
