As the leading global public policy school, SIPA is home to an international community of students and faculty committed to addressing worldwide concerns. Rigorous social science research and hands-on practice prepare SIPA graduates to work toward solving the “big problems.”

For more than 60 years, SIPA has carried out its mission by teaching the entrepreneurial skills required to launch non-profit ventures on a global basis and by providing the tools to think creatively and develop innovative solutions to critical issues through programming, class curriculum, and mentoring.

A Sampling of SIPA Courses Aimed At Social Innovation:

Creating a Social Enterprise” offered to all Columbia students interested in launching a social enterprise. It includes an overview of for-profit and non-profit social enterprises and their role in the broader market economy.

New Venture Practicum”, taught by serial entrepreneur Martin Varsavsky ’84SIPA, ‘85BUS, is a roleplaying class in which Varsavsky is the moderator and the students play simultaneous roles as entrepreneurs and as venture capitalists. This workshop focuses on the “magical moment’ when an idea becomes a funded enterprise.

The Dean’s Roundtable  On Technology, Entrepreneurship, and Urban Innovation, discusses the application of digital technology and advanced analytics to foster improvements in urban environments around the world.
