OMAO is a sustainability driven company that solves for the world’s plastic pollution problem.
Founded by Alex Zhang ’22CBS, OMAO designs, manufactures, and sells true biodegradable products. OMAO’s first product is OMAO Biodegradable Straw. Using an advance material called PHA (Polyhydroxyalkanoates), OMAO straws will naturally breakdown to CO2 and H2O in about 90 days (one of the first kinds in the world). The straw functions like a normal plastic straw, but do not harm environment. OMAO was awarded as first runner up in the ‘Alliance Social Enterprise Challenge‘, an international competition hosted by four universities including Columbia. OMAO products could be found at Columbia University, Bartaco, Le Monde, French Roast, 5 Napkins Burger, and other restaurants across the country.
