SQWAD was founded in Portland, Oregon by three avid sports fans – Lee Jorgensen, Nick Lawson, and Manuel Omar Pineyro ’12CC – with the belief that a sports organization’s mobile experience should be more than just an information packet, but an extension of the live action.
A conversation around the need for better fan engagement in the digital age soon turned into a sale with a minor league hockey team. SQWAD integrated its first real-time fantasy sports game into the team’s in-stadium mobile experience and tested it with fans to refine the idea. In the next year, the company implemented its real-time game with 3 pro teams and over 3,000 fans. Now, fans have connected with over 700,000 live game moments at almost 300 games through SQWAD Platforms.
