Columbia Students Raise $2.2 Million For Fantasy Sports Startup

In May, Joey Levy was focused on finishing his sophomore year of studies at Columbia University. A couple of his friends were concurrently wrapping up their junior year final examinations at the Ivy League institution. Levy and his two friends are no longer enrolled at Columbia. They are taking time off to pursue a passion project called Draftpot, a daily fantasy sports startup that seeks to rival the likes of FanDuel and DraftKings. It just recently raised $2.2 million to help with user acquisition and global expansion.

Levy, a South Florida native, is the Chief Executive Officer of Draftpot. He says that there was way too much upside for him and his colleagues to go back to school instead of dedicating their complete attention to growing their company. His mother was initially not in favor of his bold move, but some initial users showed enough support to get Draftpot up and running.
